the nest of the cuckoo birds (1965)

Those dark and dingy woods as lightning streaks across the sky and that ever-present guitar/drum covering the lack of sound design, The Nest of the Cuckoo Birds is just as much a budget-induced formal experiment as it is an attempt at following convention. Where it attempts convention, it couldn't land further from the mark, making it all the more anomalous in the pantheon of filmmaking.
